LS GreenLink USA, a subsidiary of LS Cable & System, has finalised the acquisition of a 96.6-acre site in Chesapeake, Virginia, marking the step in its plan to build a submarine power cable manufacturing facility in the USA. The site was acquired from International Bio-Energy Virginia Real Estate.
The planned facility will focus on producing high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cables for connecting offshore wind farms to the onshore grid. Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2025, with completion expected in the third quarter of 2027. Operations are due to start in early 2028. The first phase of the project represents an investment of over US$ 681 million and will develop roughly half of the site. The remaining land is being reserved for potential future expansion.
