The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) has issued the 4th bylaw for the implementation of the Wind Energy at Sea Act (4th WindSeeV). It contains the results of the preliminary area investigation for the construction of offshore wind farms on three areas in the German exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the North Sea.
By issuing the 4th WindSeeV, the BSH confirmed the suitability of areas N-9.1, N-9.2 and N-9.3 in the German North Sea EEZ for use by offshore wind energy totalling 5,500MW. The areas will be advertised and auctioned by the BNetzA in 2024. Details and the timeline of the tenders will be announced on March 1, 2024.
Area N-9.1 covers 158 km2 with an installed capacity of 2,000 MW. It is located approximately 98 km off the Dutch island of Ameland and 107 km off the German island of Borkum.
Area N-9.2 covers 157 km2 with an installed capacity of 2,000 MW. It is located approximately 101 km from the nearest island, Ameland (Netherlands). The nearest German island of Borkum is about 111 km away.
Area N-9.3 has a size of 106 km2; It was determined that the capacity to be installed was 1,500 MW. The shortest distance to the nearest island Rottumerplaat (Netherlands) is about 108 km. The closest German island is Borkum - the shortest distance to this island is also around 108 km.
