Legislation establishing Great British Energy, a new publicly-owned energy company, has been approved by the UK Parliament. The company will support clean energy projects across the country as part of the government's wider strategy to accelerate the energy transition.
Backed by £8.3 billion during the current parliamentary term, Great British Energy aims to support the delivery of strategic projects and co-invest with private companies to advance emerging technologies, including floating offshore wind. The initiative forms part of the government's industrial strategy focused on modernising the UK’s energy system. The Great British Energy Bill received legislative consent from all three devolved governments.
