The Skills Energy Professionals programme, an initiative led by EDP, Vestas and the Asociación Empresarial Eólica (AEE), has successfully concluded its latest edition. The scheme is designed to train young people from rural areas in Spain for roles in the operation and maintenance of wind farms helping to address rural depopulation.
The closing session took place at Vestas facilities in Viveiro, Lugo, where 24 students completed the programme. Participants came from Aragón, Asturias, Cantabria and Castilla-La Mancha. The training programme comprised 176 hours in a blended learning format. It combined online technical coursework on wind farm operation and maintenance with practical training at Vestas’ operations and maintenance centre in Lugo. Participants also completed GWO-certified safety training, including working at height and risk prevention, in Villalba, qualifying them to work across wind energy installations.
Since its launch, 125 young people have participated in the programme. The programme is intended to strengthen youth training, support the energy transition and contribute to the development of local communities.
