Renewable energy accounted for over 90% of global power expansion in 2024, with wind and solar leading the growth. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency’s latest data, total renewable capacity reached 4,448 GW, with 585 GW added last year. Wind energy capacity grew by 11.1%, reaching 1,133 GW, though its expansion rate declined slightly compared to previous years.

China and the United States remained the dominant contributors to wind power growth, reinforcing a trend of geographic disparity in renewable deployment. Asia, particularly China, accounted for nearly two-thirds of new global capacity, while regions like Central America and the Caribbean saw minimal increases. Despite this progress, the world remains behind the pace needed to triple renewable capacity by 2030. To meet this target, annual growth must accelerate to 16.6% over the next six years.
