The multi-stage drone system developed by the Deutsche Windtechnik Inspection Body for inspecting rotor blades and lightning protection systems has successfully passed validation during a conformity assessment conducted by Tüv Nord.
The drone is capable of assessing the technical condition of the rotor blades and the functionality of the lightning protection system, enabling the assessment of risks related to stability and public safety. Named CU-RE, the drone system is also well-suited for periodic inspections.
The initial stage of the CU-RE system involves conducting a visual inspection through automated drone flight. This stage covers 100 percent of the outer surface of a rotor blade to identify visible damage, faults, or irregularities. If needed, the first stage can be supplemented in the second stage through selective, manually guided drone technology. For more intensive inspections, additional specialised drone or rope access technology options can be deployed during the third stage.
