Vard has launched the NB985, an energy construction vessel (ECV) being built for Wind Energy Construction, a Norwegian company partly owned by the founders and owners of Norwind Offshore. Based on Vard’s VARD 3 11 design, the vessel is intended for the offshore wind and subsea markets.
Its planned activities include inspection, maintenance and repair of subsea pipelines, as well as the construction and installation of offshore infrastructure. The NB985 will be 111.5 metres long and 22.4 metres wide. Equipment will include an electrically controlled, motion-compensated 3D walk-to-work gangway and a 150-tonne heave-compensated subsea crane. The vessel will accommodate up to 120 people.
Vard will deliver the complete vessel, covering design, hull construction, outfitting and commissioning. Construction is taking place at Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam, with delivery scheduled for the second quarter of 2027.
