Flender is presenting a new generator concept under its Winergy wind energy brand. Winergy Genera is a validated generator design concept and technology package that can be configured for individual turbine projects. The Genera design has a power density of up to 700 W/kg, which is 10% higher than previous versions.
The generator is 25% shorter than the previous generation, allowing it to fit into the nacelle while maintaining the option of transport by standard truck and container for power classes above 10 MW. Noise emissions are also reduced by 6 dB(A) compared with the previous generation.
Genera is based on a double-fed induction generator (DFIG) and is available across different power classes without the use of rare earth materials. Depending on project requirements, the windings can be specified in aluminium or copper.
The generator is designed to work with different gearboxes and is optimised for use with the Winergy Revo gearbox concept.
The technology package can be configured according to individual project requirements rather than using the same configuration for every turbine.
Genera is also integrated with Flender's service and digitalisation offering. Its AIQ drive intelligence system can be used to monitor the condition of the drivetrain, from the main bearing through the gearbox and coupling to the generator.
