Cerulean Winds has completed a programme of ecological surveys across its proposed floating offshore wind developments—Aspen, Beech, and Cedar—covering a total area of 2,784 km² in UK waters. The developer, which is leading more than 3 GW of floating offshore wind capacity, commissioned 72 digital aerial surveys (DAS) to collect ecological data to support the projects’ consenting phase.
The surveys were carried out by HiDef Surveying between April 2023 and March 2025, using fixed-wing aircraft fitted with ultra-high-resolution digital imaging systems. The data gathered will inform environmental assessments and ensure alignment with UK and European environmental regulations. It will also be used to support sustainable project design, including the placement of turbines and associated infrastructure. Once operational, the three projects could include up to 300 floating wind turbines. The Aspen development, with a planned capacity of 1 GW, will be delivered first.
