The Egyptian government, represented by the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), has entered into an agreement with Jan De Nul Group to commence a study for the construction of an undersea export cable connecting Egypt and Europe.
The interconnector aims to facilitate the transportation of over 2 gigawatts of solar and wind power from Egypt to Europe through a submarine power cable spanning approximately 1,000 kilometers. The water depths along the cable route reach up to 3,000 meters. Jan De Nul Group will now undertake a financial and technical study with the ultimate goal of actively participating in the development of the export project. The study encompasses project financing, the generation of green power, the installation and production of transmission systems such as cables, and the identification of partners to integrate with the existing grids in Europe. The commencement of the actual project execution is scheduled for 2027.
