The installation of the Evacuator fire-proof and panic-proof escape descent system has begun at the Belwind offshore wind farm. Following its implementation at Arcadis Ost 1 (using Vestas V174 9.5MW turbines) and Northwester 2 (with Vestas V164 9.5MW turbines), the system is now being integrated into Belwind, which operates Vestas V90 turbines.
The Evacuator is a permanently fixed escape descent system designed to enhance safety for offshore wind technicians. The system features pre-installed escape hooks that remain ready at emergency escape hatches, allowing multiple technicians to evacuate within 10 seconds from different locations. By providing a rapid and reliable means of descent, the Evacuator significantly improves emergency response and survivability in the event of fire or other critical incidents.
Belwind is a 171MW offshore wind project located approximately 49km off the coast of Ostend, Belgium, which has been operational since 2010. Belwind was developed by JERA Nex’s wholly owned subsidiary Parkwind.
