HSM Offshore Energy has rolled out the Thor Offshore High Voltage Substation (OHVS) and lifted the gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) modules for RWE Renewables at its Schiedam yard in the Netherlands.
The Thor offshore wind farm, with a planned capacity of 1058 MW, is located in the Danish sector of the North Sea, approximately 22 kilometres off the west coast of Jutland. The OHVS will serve as the central hub, collecting electricity generated by the turbines and converting it to transmission-level voltage. The green electricity will then be transported via export cables to the new onshore substation at Volder Søndervang.
HSM Offshore Energy is responsible for the full engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) scope of the substation and its jacket foundation. Installation is planned for 2025, with commissioning and testing in 2026. RWE Renewables will take over operation in the fourth quarter of 2026.
