In December 2013, a consortium has been formed to implement the Facilitating Offshore Wind in India (FOWIND) project funded by the European Union. The objectives of the FOWIND project include the identification of potential offshore sites through bankable wind data measurements.
MeteoPole India, based in Hyderabad, has been selected to be the official technology partner and supplier of a ground-based WindCube v2 offshore LIDAR during the upcoming measurement campaign in Gujarat. For the first time, a WindCube LIDAR system will be used in India to assess the offshore wind resource. The consortium consists of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), the Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), DNV GL, the Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL), World Institute of Sustainable Energy (WISE) and the National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE).
