Offshore construction has commenced on the first phase of RWE’s 1.6 GW Nordseecluster offshore wind project in Germany, beginning with scour protection works. Scour protection is being installed to provide full coverage for the monopile foundations, which are scheduled for installation later this year.
Van Oord has been contracted to carry out the scour protection works using its flexible fallpipe vessel Stornes. The vessel is equipped with a dynamic positioning system, a flexible fallpipe, and in-house developed remotely operated vehicle (ROV) technology. In a subsequent phase of the project, Van Oord’s offshore installation vessel Boreas will be used to install the monopile foundations.
