34 Belgian energy co-operatives under the umbrella organisation SeaCoop launched the Our Energy platform. The platform enables citizen participation in the production and sale of green electricity.
It facilitates participation in the Northwind offshore wind farm through SeaCoop’s investment via Aspiravi Offshore and supports a cooperation agreement with Otary, Ocean Winds and Eneco in bidding for the concession of the Princess Elisabeth Zone I offshore wind farm. The objective is to increase citizen involvement to 500,000 by 2030.
SeaCoop has acquired a 10% stake in Aspiravi Offshore on behalf of its member co-operatives. Aspiravi Offshore owns 70% of the Northwind offshore wind farm, and this investment provides an indirect production capacity of 15MW, equivalent to five wind turbines and estimated to supply electricity for approximately 15,000 households. Financing for this investment is provided by the member co-operatives, which may raise additional capital from their members, along with temporary external bank financing.
In addition, SeaCoop will participate in the bidding for the Princess Elisabeth Zone I offshore wind farm concession from 2025 by joining the Haddock Wind consortium, alongside Otary, Ocean Winds and Eneco.
