GE Vernova has announced the expansion of its manufacturing facilities in Stafford, UK, to meet the demand for High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission systems needed for renewable energy projects across Europe, Asia, and North America.
The expansion focuses on two key sites:
1. Stafford HVDC Facility at Redhill – This facility will double its valve manufacturing capacity by installing an additional Voltage-Sourced Converter (VSC) valve assembly line. These valves are crucial for the optimal transmission of power from offshore wind farms and other renewable energy sources to the grid.
2. Stafford Transformer Facility at Lichfield Road – This site will undergo significant upgrades to enhance its production capacity for HVDC converter transformers. These transformers, essential for integrating renewable energy into the grid, have recently been installed in the North Sea to support the 1.4 GW Sofia Offshore Wind Farm.
As part of this expansion, GE Vernova’s Grid Solutions business expects to create around 600 new jobs in the UK from 2023 to the end of 2025.
