SSEN Transmission has launched a new supply chain framework aimed at creating opportunities for suppliers across northern Scotland and beyond, with a focus on supporting local businesses and regional economies.
The framework will support the delivery of infrastructure projects under SSEN Transmission’s £29 billion investment programme to upgrade the electricity transmission network.
Covering a wide range of onshore transmission activities, including civil engineering, building construction, overhead lines and underground cable installation, the framework is expected to support up to £7.4 billion of investment. The works will contribute to network upgrades and new grid connections required for a secure, lower-carbon and more affordable energy system.
The framework is divided into six lots, aligning activities with contractor capabilities and project complexity while enabling both regional participation and large-scale delivery:
Lot 1 – Civils up to £10 million (regional): enabling works and access infrastructure.
Lot 2 – Civils over £10 million (national): complex, multidisciplinary civil engineering packages.
Lot 3 – Buildings and infrastructure: design and construction of operational buildings.
Lot 4 – Overhead line pole construction: design and construction of pole-based transmission lines.
Lot 5 – Overhead line tower construction: design and construction of lattice tower transmission lines.
Lot 6 – Underground cable construction: design and installation of underground cable systems.
The framework is open to both existing partners and new suppliers.
