Vattenfall reported a strong financial performance for the first half of 2026, supported by higher Nordic electricity prices, particularly during the first two months of the year. Increased hydro and wind power generation, together with improved customer and distribution businesses, also contributed to the result.
Underlying operating profit for January to June increased 45% to SEK 22.1 billion, while operating profit doubled to SEK 28.9 billion. Profit for the period rose 117% to SEK 23.5 billion.
In the second quarter, underlying operating profit declined 30% to SEK 4.7 billion and operating profit fell 20% to SEK 4.9 billion. However, profit for the period increased 14% to SEK 5.6 billion.
During the quarter, nuclear developer Videberg Kraft selected Rolls-Royce SMR as supplier for a proposed new nuclear power project at the Värö Peninsula in Sweden, while Vattenfall signed an agreement to sell a majority stake in Videberg Kraft to the Swedish state.
Vattenfall also inaugurated the 139 MW Bruzaholm hybrid park in Sweden, which combines wind power with a 38 MW/38 MWh battery energy storage system, commissioned two solar parks in Germany with a combined capacity of 126 MWp, and began an eight-year collaboration with NCC and Svenska kraftnät to expand and upgrade 450 kilometres of Sweden's transmission grid.
