The Australian Government has designated an area in the Southern Ocean, off the coast of western Victoria, as suitable for offshore wind development.
This declaration comes after extensive consultation with local communities, state and local government officials, First Nations representatives, as well as existing industries such as shipping, defense, fishing, and other marine users. The identified area has the potential to generate over 2.9GW of offshore wind energy. Notably, this marks the third area deemed suitable for offshore wind development, following Gippsland, Victoria, and Hunter, NSW.
