The Norwegian government intends to provide up to NOK 35 billion in subsidies for the country's first commercial floating wind tender. The government's budget document clarified that this subsidy amount is based on a reference project of about 500 MW.
The final offshore wind capacity within this financial framework will be influenced by factors such as cost fluctuations, project duration, and the desired return on investment of the bidding companies. There has been considerable interest in the tender, with at least 13 consortia and individual bidders participating. The initial focus is on Utsira Nord, located off the coast of southern Norway near Haugesund. This area includes three sites with a combined potential capacity of up to 2.25 GW.
