GustoMSC introduces asymmetrical rack and pinion technology for offshore installation vesselsGustoMSC, NOV's offshore design and engineering business, has introduced a new asymmetrical rack and pinion (ASYM R&P) technology designed to support the installation of larger offshore wind turbines. The patent-pending technology has been developed to address increasing demands on installation vessels for higher load capacity, improved efficiency and shorter project schedules, without increasing vessel size, weight or system complexity.

ASYM R&P technology builds on GustoMSC's existing rack and pinion jacking systems and aims to improve load distribution throughout the system architecture. According to the company, this allows more efficient use of structural capacity within the same vessel footprint.

Rather than increasing performance through larger components and additional weight, the technology uses an asymmetrical design integrated into GustoMSC's established rack and pinion jacking system and jack-up vessel designs.
