Avangrid, part of the Iberdrola group, has extended its offtake agreement with Xcel Energy for electricity generated by the MinnDakota wind project. The MinnDakota facility has a capacity of 150 MW and is located on the border between Minnesota and South Dakota.
Around two-thirds of the project is situated in Lincoln County, Minnesota, with the remainder in Brookings County, South Dakota. The project supports nine full-time operation and maintenance roles and has contributed approximately $10 million in property taxes since commissioning, supporting local public services.
Xcel Energy has been the offtaker for MinnDakota since the start of commercial operations and will continue to purchase electricity from the project under the extended agreement.
Avangrid operates more than 900 MW of generation capacity across 10 projects in Minnesota and South Dakota, including MinnDakota. Nationwide, the company’s portfolio exceeds 10.5 GW across more than 80 projects.
