Fugro has joined OCEANITY, a Horizon Europe-funded project aimed at developing decision-support applications for coastal and marine stakeholders within the European Digital Twin Ocean (EDITO). The project will allow governments, industries and other users to explore the potential effects of different decisions before taking action.
Europe’s coastal zones and oceans support a wide range of activities, from protecting communities and ecosystems to supporting maritime industries. Climate change, environmental pressures and increasing demands for marine space are making decisions about these areas more complex. OCEANITY aims to provide users with better insights into the potential effects of different choices.
The European Digital Twin Ocean combines modelling, artificial intelligence, Earth observation and socio-economic data to enable users to explore different scenarios and assess their potential effects on people, ecosystems and economies.
Fugro will co-design applications for EDITO and manage stakeholder engagement, helping to align the tools with user requirements and practical applications. EOMAP, a Fugro company, will contribute Earth observation data, platform components and a virtual reality environment for the Coastal & Urban Resilience application, as well as supporting outreach activities.
Running from September 2026 to August 2029, OCEANITY will develop three applications covering Coastal & Urban Resilience, Marine Spatial Planning and Sustainable Maritime Operations. The applications will be co-designed with their intended users and demonstrated across Europe’s four sea basins.
The project is led by the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC) and brings together organisations from the private sector, academia, small and medium-sized enterprises and research institutions.
