Volkswagen's subsidiary PowerCo SE has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with green energy producer Alterric. The contract stipulates the supply of approximately 2.4 terawatt-hours of green electricity over the next ten years to PowerCo’s cell factory in Salzgitter, Germany.
Starting in 2025, Alterric will deliver 240 gigawatt-hours of climate-neutral electricity annually from four wind farms in Lower Saxony. PowerCo aims to set new sustainability standards for batteries and will rely on climate-friendly power for its operations. Additionally, Envitec will supply 65 gigawatt-hours of solar energy per year. This agreement ensures the Salzgitter plant is fully powered by green electricity.
