Muir Mhòr Offshore Wind Farm has submitted two consent applications for review by the relevant authorities. This project is the first fully floating offshore wind farm from the ScotWind leasing process to submit both offshore and onshore consent applications.
This follows a 12-month consultation period with local communities and stakeholders. Once operational, the wind farm will generate up to 1 GW of clean power. Muir Mhòr, meaning ‘Great Sea’ in Gaelic, will be located off the east coast of Scotland, approximately 63 km from Peterhead. If the applications are approved by the Scottish Government and Aberdeenshire Council within the next nine to 12 months, the wind farm could start generating power in the early 2030s. Muir Mhòr is a 50/50 joint venture between Fred. Olsen Seawind and Vattenfall.
