Mammoet has signed a contract to support Heerema Marine Contractors in the offshore installation of two topsides for TenneT’s 2GW programme. As part of the work scope, Mammoet will assist in floatover preparations by skidding the topsides from a heavy transport vessel onto Heerema’s newly built H-731 barge, using hydraulic skid shoes.
The company’s Mega Jack System will then lift the topsides to the required floatover height. A deck support frame will be positioned underneath to enable final installation onto jacket foundations.
TenneT’s 2GW programme involves the installation of fourteen high-voltage direct current (HVDC) offshore grid connections in the North Sea by 2032—six in Germany and eight in the Netherlands. Each system will have a capacity of 2GW. The HVDC systems will receive power generated by offshore wind farms, convert it from alternating to direct current, and transmit it ashore.
