PowerWind GmbH has installed a PowerWind 56 wind turbine in the US ski resort Berkshire East, Massachusetts. The turbine, with a rated power of 900kW, will produce more than 100 per cent of the energy needed annually for operating the chair lifts and snow cannons.
The excessive energy is used for supplying energy to the nearby small town Charlemont. For PowerWind, this project is the entry into the American community-scale market. The customer is the company Berkshire East Ski Resort. The company Sustainable Energy Development (SED) specialized in community wind projects was responsible for developing the project.
