GE has announced it has entered into a US$ 27 million partnership with the US Department of Energy (DOE) to design a next-generation offshore wind turbine. The power rating of the turbine will be optimised for minimal cost of energy but is expected to be between 5 and 7MW. The research will be conducted at GE’s Global Research Center in Niskayuna, NY. GE’s partnership with DOE on this project will last 3 to 4 years.

Westman Wind Power Company announced that it is developing eight wind power projects in Manitoba (Canada). The eight projects, which are spread across Manitoba, have an initial capacity of approximately 700MW and a potential maximum capacity of more than 1,400MW.

Indowind is planning to install a 9MW wind farm in Tamilnadu (India) with financial assistance from Power Finance Corporation Ltd, Delhi, and the Bank of India, Mumbai. To fund the margin money, the company is proposing to go for initial public offering (IPO) through the book building route and the DRHP (Draft Red Herring Prospectus) for the same was filed with the SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) on 3 February 2006.
