ScottishPower and RES UK Ltd have been granted planning permission by Scottish Borders Council for a 30MW, 35 turbine extension to Dun Law wind farm south of Soutra. The combined 61 turbine wind farm will provide enough green energy for 24,000 homes and will reduce carbon emissions equivalent to taking 35,000 cars off the road.

Airtricity has announced that it will recommence building wind farms in Ireland for the first time in two years. Airtricity will double its existing generation capacity through the development of sites at locations in Limerick, Cavan and Wexford.

TrustPower has announced it is pursuing a wind farm development at Lake Mahinerangi, south of Dunedin (New Zealand). The area of land being investigated for the project includes land owned by the Dunedin City Council, which has approved TrustPower’s initial investigations on this land.

Nordex AG has obtained orders from the UK. The company will be constructing the Earlsburn wind farm, comprising 15 large turbines from the N80/2500kW series, for its customer Falck Renewables Ltd.

REpower Systems AG, REpower’s Chinese partner Dongfang Steam Turbine Works and the Municipality of Qingdao have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) about the establishment of one of the first offshore wind farms in Asia. The demonstrator project contains five REpower 5M-class turbines, which are due to be installed in spring 2008 next to the venue of the Olympic sailing events. The water depth at the location is approximately 20 metres.

A new wind project in Okel, Lower Saxony, Germany, features five 2.3MW wind turbines from GE Energy. Located 20 kilometres southeast of Bremen, the Windpark Okeler Bruch has a total capacity of 11.5MW.
