17 Energy and SC Power launched the Viento Azul Biobío (VAB) Consortium, a partnership aimed at developing Chile's offshore wind industry.
The partners aim to develop an offshore wind farm with a target power generation capacity of between 500 MW and 1 GW. The technology to be used has not yet been decided, but the water depth in the region is favourable for floating offshore wind technology. Viento Azul Biobío is a long-term project, targeting operation in the 2030s. It will take a minimum of seven years to develop Viento Azul Biobío. The project will then be operational for 25 to 30 years, with potential for life extensions.
