Jan De Nul has ordered two new vessels designed to bury submarine cables in the seabed, named the Fleeming Jenkin and William Thomson. One of the vessels will be a trenching support vessel equipped with a subsea robot capable of burying cables up to five metres deep.
The vessel is an Ulstein design and will be built at the CMHI shipyard in China. It will incorporate Ultra-Low Emission Vessel (ULEv) technology to filter up to 99% of nanoparticles from exhaust gases, with engines capable of running on biofuel and prepared for future methanol operation.
In addition, Jan De Nul will convert its vessel Henry Darcy into a trenching support vessel, fitted with a subsea robot from Osbit for burying cables in shallow waters.
Jan De Nul currently has four vessels under construction for the installation and protection of subsea cables, with one additional vessel undergoing conversion.
