PD Ports has announced plans to develop the Teesport Offshore Gateway into a hub for offshore wind manufacturing and installation. The proposed facility will include a deep-water quay of up to one kilometre in length, providing unrestricted access to the North Sea. It is intended to support both floating and fixed-bottom offshore wind technologies.
The company is seeking to engage with the offshore renewables sector to help shape the development. Discussions with original equipment manufacturers, developers, the UK Government and industry stakeholders will focus on identifying opportunities for collaboration and funding, as well as refining the strategic direction of the project.
By announcing the initiative early in the process, PD Ports aims to incorporate sector insight into the detailed design of the facility to ensure it aligns with future industry needs. The site already holds both planning and marine consents, subject to amendments, to expand an existing berth. The proposed development includes a 15.5-metre deep-water mooring, designed to accommodate all current and next-generation offshore installation vessels.
PD Ports operates across 11 locations in the UK, including Teesport and Hartlepool in the north, facilities around the River Humber, and sites in Felixstowe, Thames and the Isle of Wight.
