In recent years, Tennet has completed numerous new offshore infrastructure projects, with many more wind farms, offshore grid connections, and installations planned for development in the North Sea.
By 2031, Tennet anticipates completing 17 offshore grid connections with a total installed capacity exceeding 21 GW of offshore wind in the Dutch North Sea, all of which will require regular maintenance. However, resources such as materials, personnel, installations, and vessels for maintenance and management are limited.
Recognising the potential for increased efficiency through collaboration, Tennet is initiating efforts to consolidate management and maintenance services for offshore infrastructure under a new model. While oil and gas operators have already begun to cooperate in various forms, many wind farm operators currently handle maintenance independently or procure services separately. As resources become increasingly scarce and vessels are not always optimally utilised, Tennet aims to foster collaboration among stakeholders.
In the upcoming period, the transmission system operator will engage with wind farm and oil and gas operators to exchange information and explore their interest in participating in a collaborative model for offshore maintenance.
