Hitachi Energy has introduced EcoSpace, a digital sustainability platform. The platform is designed to quantify and visualise the environmental footprint of power grid projects, supporting utilities, grid developers and investors in making data-based decisions and strengthening sustainability reporting.
EcoSpace forms part of the HMAX Energy portfolio, an artificial intelligence-driven suite of services aimed at protecting critical energy infrastructure. The platform converts environmental data into practical insights, enabling a more strategic approach to sustainability management.
By analysing the full lifecycle of power grid systems, from raw materials and logistics to installation and operation, EcoSpace provides real-time insight into environmental performance across project phases, regions and applications. Through dashboard-based tools, users can assess carbon impacts, compare design scenarios and identify opportunities to reduce emissions.
The platform has already been applied in several grid projects. In collaboration with Statnett at a 420 kilovolt substation in Oslo, EcoSpace was used to assess lifecycle impacts, indicating a potential 20% reduction in total carbon footprint over a 30-year period.
