Vard has delivered a hybrid construction and cable laying vessel to Japan's Toyo Construction, marking the Norwegian shipbuilder's first vessel delivered to the Japanese offshore wind market. The handover took place at Vard Langsten in Norway with representatives from both companies attending the delivery ceremony. The vessel is also the first ordered by Toyo Construction from Vard. The hull was built at Vard Shipyards Romania in Tulcea before final outfitting, commissioning and delivery at Vard Langsten.
The customised vessel is 151 metres long with a beam of 28 metres and a cable carrying capacity of 9,000 tonnes. Designed as a self-propelled cable laying vessel, it is also equipped for a range of offshore construction activities, including fixed-bottom foundation work, floating offshore wind mooring installation and marine resource projects.
The vessel features a removable cable laying system, two offshore cranes, a high-capacity crane, a large working deck, a four-point mooring system and a helideck. It is also equipped with a large battery pack and a shore power connection to support lower-emission operations.
