The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) programme for Ilmatar's largest offshore wind project, Bothnia, has been initiated, marking the project's advancement to the consultation phase.
Collaborating with Ramboll Finland, Ilmatar is conducting the EIA work. The Bothnia project, situated in the Finnish Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), comprises two sub-areas: Bothnia and Bothnia West. Throughout the development process, these areas have been optimised, resulting in a reduction in size – Bothnia is now approximately half of its original size, while Bothnia West has been scaled down by about 40%. Collectively, the two areas encompass nearly 1,200 km2 and boast a potential energy production capacity of 4 GW. With the commencement of the EIA programme, the Bothnia project progresses into its consultation phase. During this phase, the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY) in Southwest Finland welcomes statements and opinions from stakeholders, other authorities, and the public. The deadline for submitting comments is 14th June 2024.
