Chubu Electric Power (Chubu) has acquired shares in the Hollandse Kust West (HKW) Site VI offshore wind power project, situated approximately 53 km off the northwest coast of the Netherlands. Chubu has entered into an agreement with Eneco to acquire 30% equity shares of Ecowende C.V. (Project Company), the entity responsible for operating the project.
Following the completion of acquisition procedures, including regulatory approvals, Chubu has now officially obtained shares of the Project Company. The project is developed by Shell and Eneco. In December 2022, the consortium between Shell and Eneco secured the concession right to operate the Project through a public tender. The Project Company aims to construct an offshore wind farm capable of supplying 760MW to the Dutch power grid, with commercial operations slated to commence in 2026.
By directly participating in the Project, Chubu anticipates gaining valuable experience in the offshore wind power business, spanning from construction to operation, alongside insights into Ecological Innovation. Chubu intends to leverage the expertise and knowledge acquired through this Project for future offshore wind farm developments in Japan and other countries.
