EDF Renewables North America and Masdar, co-owners of the Las Majadas Wind Project, have signed a power purchase agreement with data centre developer Soluna. Under the agreement, Soluna will purchase up to 166 MW of energy from the wind project to power its planned data centre, Project Kati, located near the project’s substation.
Project Kati will operate using behind-the-meter power from the wind farm while adjusting operations based on market conditions to prioritise grid demand when necessary. This PPA structure offers a flexible approach to managing transmission constraints and curtailment, enabling the use of under-utilised electricity while supplying clean energy to an advanced computing facility, including artificial intelligence applications.
The Las Majadas Wind Project, located in Willacy County, Texas, has a total capacity of 273 MW and has been operational since 2021.
