EnBW has announced that its subsidiary Norseman Wind AS will not participate in Norway’s Sørlige Nordsjø II offshore wind auction. Sørlige Nordsjø II borders the Danish sector in the North Sea.
Sørlige Nordsjø II, with a target capacity of 3GW, will be auctioned in two separate 1.5GW phases. Norway will offer a contract to a single applicant consortium for up to 1.5 GW of turbine capacity on the site. According to a corporate statement, the primary reasons in EnBW's decision were the obligation to develop and own the high-voltage direct current transmission connection, as well as the state funding limit of 23 billion Norwegian kroner. EnBW was one of five consortia selected to participate in the auction. The other consortia are Aker Offshore Wind, BP and Statkraft; Equinor and RWE; Ventyr (Parkwind and Ingka); and Shell, Lyse and Eviny. The auction will be held on 18 March.
