Eversource Energy has announced that its Huntsbrook Offshore Wind (OSW) Hub project has been awarded $89 million in federal grant funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Grid Innovation Program.
The project involves constructing a new 345 kV switching station at Huntsbrook Junction in Montville, Connecticut, to create a point of interconnection for future offshore wind developers. This hub will enable the delivery of 2,400 MW of offshore wind power via high-voltage transmission lines.
Eversource plans to begin the permitting process for the Huntsbrook OSW Hub in late 2024, with reviews expected to continue through 2027. Construction is anticipated to start in 2028 and finish by 2031. The Huntsbrook OSW Hub is part of the Power Up New England project portfolio, which received a total of $389 million in funding through the Department of Energy program.
