The Maryland Public Service Commission has approved US Wind’s rebid application, granting additional offshore wind renewable energy credits (ORECs) to support its projects off the Maryland coast. Previously, US Wind secured ORECs for over 1,056 MW across the 2017 and 2021 offshore wind rounds.
Under the Revised Round 2, US Wind will develop a 1,710 MW project in four phases, featuring 114 turbines of 15 MW each. Phase 1 is expected to be operational in 2029, while Phases 2, 3, and 4 are scheduled for completion by December 2030. The first year of OREC allocations will begin in January 2031. This new project also incorporates capacity relinquished by Skipjack Energy in early 2024.
The decision follows House Bill 1296, signed into law on May 9, 2024, requiring the Commission to review revised project schedules, sizes, or pricing for previously approved offshore wind projects. US Wind was the sole applicant in this round.
