National Grid Ventures (NGV) and Con Edison Transmission have jointly submitted a proposal to construct transmission infrastructure for transporting offshore wind power to New Jersey’s electric grid.

Named the Garden State Energy Path, this infrastructure will facilitate the delivery of approximately 6GW of offshore wind power from its landing point at the Sea Girt National Guard Training Center to the Larrabee Tri-Collector Station in Howell Township. The project will be underground, ensuring that the cables remain protected from storms and other severe weather conditions that could potentially cause customer outages. The initiative involves the installation of "pre-build infrastructure" to accommodate the cables transmitting electricity generated by four wind projects to the grid. Subject to approval, the Garden State Energy Path is expected to be operational by early 2029, serving selected New Jersey offshore wind farms.
