Vestas has received a firm order from Vattenfall for 68 V236-15.0 MW wind turbines for the Nordlicht 1 offshore wind project in Germany. The contract includes the supply, installation, and commissioning of the turbines, along with a five-year service and warranty agreement, followed by a 25-year operational support agreement.
The Nordlicht 1 project has a total capacity of 1,020 MW, with a grid connection capacity of 980 MW and an additional 40 MW to optimise the use of available transmission capacity. Construction is set to begin in 2026, with turbine installation planned for 2027. The wind farm is expected to be fully operational in 2028.
The Nordlicht wind farm area is located 85 kilometres north of the island of Borkum in the German North Sea and consists of two separate sites: Nordlicht 1 and Nordlicht 2. Vestas and Vattenfall signed a conditional order agreement for both sites in June 2024. If Nordlicht 2 becomes a firm and unconditional order, Vestas will announce it in line with its disclosure policy.
