RWE has commenced the repowering of its Muel wind farm in the Aragon region near Zaragoza. The site’s 27 ageing turbines, totalling 16.2 MW, will be replaced by three 6.6 MW units, increasing overall capacity to 19.8 MW.

Global Energy Services (GES) has started initial construction, with commissioning scheduled for the end of 2025. A power purchase agreement has been secured with an undisclosed buyer. The original turbines, disconnected in March after 27 years of operation, will be dismantled by circular economy firm RenerCycle. Of the 1,350 components, many will be refurbished for reuse in other RWE wind farms. Around 1,825 tonnes of ferrous material will be recovered, and 95% of materials recycled. The turbine blades will be processed at the Waste2Fiber facility being developed in Lumbier by Acciona, Acciona Energía and RenerCycle.
