Siemens Gamesa has installed the first offshore wind turbine at the Hai Long 2A wind farm, located 50 kilometres off the coast of Changhua County, Taiwan. The nacelle was manufactured at the company’s facility in Taichung and is the first SG 14-222 nacelle to be produced and installed offshore in Taiwan.
The Hai Long 2A project will have a total capacity of 294 MW, with each turbine rated at 14 MW and equipped with a 222-metre rotor. The turbines use 108-metre-long Siemens Gamesa IntegralBlades. Hai Long comprises two development phases—Hai Long 2 and Hai Long 3—with a combined expected generating capacity of 1,022 MW. Hai Long 2A is supported by a 294 MW, 20-year power purchase agreement with Taipower under Taiwan’s Feed-in Tariff scheme. The remaining capacity, Hai Long 2B and Hai Long 3 (728 MW), is covered by a 30-year corporate power purchase agreement with an investment-grade counterparty.
