EDP increased its wind and solar installed capacity to 21.2 GW in the first quarter of 2026, up 1.3 GW year-on-year, according to the company’s operating data preview for the period. Wind and solar generation rose by 4% year-on-year to 11.5 TWh, including distributed solar generation in Europe and Brazil. The increase was supported by a 6% rise in installed capacity over the previous 12 months, stronger solar contribution from North America and improved wind and solar resources in Europe.
Total onshore wind installed capacity reached 12.5 GW, while utility-scale solar capacity increased to 4.8 GW. EDP added around 2.1 GW of total capacity over the past 12 months, of which 2.0 GW was added at EDP Renewables level. As of March 2026, the company had 1.9 GW under construction, supporting planned additions for 2026 and beyond.
EDP said total electricity generation increased by 4% year-on-year to 19 TWh during the quarter, with renewables accounting for 91% of the generation mix. Wind represented 47% of generation, hydro 31% and solar 13%.
Hydro generation in Iberia reached 4.3 TWh during the quarter, supported by hydro resources 52% above the historical average. The increase in hydro and wind output contributed to a decline in average Iberian electricity spot prices from €85.3/MWh in the first quarter of 2025 to €44.2/MWh in the same period of 2026. Reservoir levels reached 94% at the end of March, the highest level for that period in the last ten years.
Thermal generation increased by 4% year-on-year, mainly due to higher gas-fired generation in Portugal following temporary outages in the transmission and interconnection system caused by storms during February and March.
During the quarter, EDP completed an asset rotation deal for a 150 MW wind portfolio in Greece and secured agreements for 150 MW and 250 MW solar projects in the USA.
