AkzoNobel protective coatings brand International is supplying corrosion protection and chemical and heat-resistant coating systems for wind power and chemical processing facilities at the Songyuan Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park in China.
The integrated green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol project is being constructed by China Energy Engineering Group. It is now in its second phase and operates on 100 per cent renewable electricity, targeting annual production of 45,000 tonnes of green hydrogen and 200,000 tonnes of green ammonia and methanol.
The steel structures at the site are protected using a coating system including Interzinc 52E, Interthane 990E and Intergard 475HS, designed to reduce volatile organic compound emissions compared with conventional systems while providing corrosion protection.
For piping and ammonia tanks, Interbond 2340UPC has been selected for its application characteristics and protection against corrosion under insulation. Hydrogen storage spheres are coated with Interseal 670HS, combined with a topcoat included on the GB register of solar reflective coatings.
Construction of the Songyuan project began in 2023 and it covers the full value chain from renewable electricity generation through to green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol production.
