DNV has been chosen by Equinor to conduct verification services for the Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) phase of the substation for the Bandibuli / Firefly floating wind farm. This wind farm encompasses two areas spanning 75 square kilometres each, located 70 kilometres offshore Ulsan in South Korea.
The scope of work includes independent assessment and validation of standards, design requirements, and specifications, with a focus on enhancing performance and mitigating risks. DNV has also initiated a Joint Industry Project (JIP), which involves collaboration with 38 participating companies, including Equinor, to address the challenges associated with floating offshore substations. Insights and findings from the JIP will inform the design verification process for this project. Furthermore, DNV will utilise the outcomes and knowledge gained from the JIP to update its standard for offshore substations (DNV-ST-0145) to incorporate floating substations.
