Hitachi Energy has signed contracts worth over 2 billion euros with German transmission system operator (TSO) Amprion to deliver four converter stations for two high-voltage direct current (HVDC) links.
These links, V48 and V49, are part of Korridor B, a transmission corridor that will transport clean energy from onshore and offshore wind farms in the North to replace conventional power generation supplying industrial centres in the West. As part of the agreement, Hitachi Energy will supply, install, and commission two HVDC Light converter systems, each capable of transmitting 2 GW of power at 525 kilovolts (kV). The converter stations are expected to begin operation in early 2030.
