Hughes Subsea awarded UXO contract for East Anglia Three wind farmOEG Energy Group (OEG) has announced that Hughes Subsea, an OEG Renewables (OEGR) business, has secured the contract for the unexploded ordnance (UXO) identification and clearance campaign on the East Anglia Three wind farm, being developed by ScottishPower Renewables in the Southern North Sea.

The project is expected to last six months, starting in mid-March and concluding in early October 2024, utilising the Glomar Wave, a DP2 vessel measuring 66.4 meters in length. Offshore operations will involve identifying, investigating, and disposing of confirmed UXO (cUXO) targets across an area of approximately 305 square kilometres. Hughes Subsea will deploy its work class remotely operated vehicle (WROV) and specialist divers, supported by another OEGR business, Geosight, providing surveying and calibration services. Additionally, maritime archaeologists will handle historic findings, while marine mammal observers (MMOs) will monitor local wildlife, demonstrating a commitment to environmental stewardship. The East Anglia Three wind farm, situated 69 kilometres off the coast of East Anglia, will feature an offshore substation, up to 100 wind turbine generators on monopile foundations reaching 262 meters in height, and 147 kilometres of array and export cabling, aiming to produce up to 1400 MW of clean energy.
